By Elizabeth Ames Jones

AUSTIN, TX -- Today the Senate killed an effort to speed up the permitting process for offshore drilling and conduct lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico that had already been scheduled.

President Obama and the Democrats in Washington talk a good game about America’s energy security and ramping up oil production, but when it comes time to act, they run for the hills.

At a time when energy prices are skyrocketing and instability in the Middle East and North Africa continues to increase, the failure of Senate Democrats to act in support of American energy security and lower energy costs for working Americans is beyond irresponsible.

This slap in the face is just one more reason we need a conservative majority in the Senate. As Texas’ next U.S. Senator, I will be an unyielding advocate for increased domestic energy production and greater energy security for America.

Jones is a candidate for U.S. Senate
