Registration is under way for the 2011 Texas Reading Club at the Falls City Public Library. This year’s theme is “Dig Up a Good Book!”

The goals of the Texas Reading Club are to encourage children and families to read for pleasure, to help children maintain and improve their reading skills, to encourage them to become lifelong readers and library users, and to establish reading as a foundation for academic success. A beautiful certificate created by award-winning author and illustrator Keith Graves and signed by the governor of Texas will be presented to each child who reaches their reading goals. Children ages 4 through second grade are asked to read at least 10 books to receive a certificate. Kids in grades 3 through 6 must read 5 chapter books with at least 40 pages to earn a certificate. Participants can win additional prizes by reading more and more books.

Additionally, the Falls City Public Library has scheduled weekly activities and programs for all who participate in the Texas Reading Club. Some of the activities include making fossil crafts and edible “dirt” cups. Mr. Puppet and the always-popular Spikey Mikey the Magician have been scheduled for a couple afternoons of fun.

For more information, call the Falls City Public Library at 830-254-3361.
