(Revised 5/26) The family of Sophie Sparks of La Vernia and the La Vernia community are planning a gathering to pray for Sophie Thursday, May 26, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in La Vernia. The following is a personal message from Shannon Kosub about the Sophie and the event.

"Our precious Sophie is in need of specific prayers. The tumors in her lungs are causing extreme back pain. Dr. Patel has said that we need to pray that this chemo treatment shrinks the tumors and lessons her pain immediately! Our close friend Staci Vick has helped us form a gathering tomorrow night at ST. Anns in La Vernia @7pm., where we will send up our prayers and pleas to God via helium balloons. We are asking everyone that can attend to bring your children and allow them to write a letter as well. We are holding strong to our FAITH right now and we know without a doubt that the good Lord is listening to our prayers. Probably one of the hardest steps of faith is believing that God hears and will help us when we call on Him. I hope many will come out and please God is by trusting Him despite the storm that we are facing and ask Him for this MIRACLE! We will be wearing our Team Sophie shirts and your invited to wear yours as well. Sophie has already written her letter and I cannot wait to see her send it off! Please help us spread the word."
