Preferred candidates should have good organizational skills and perform routine clerical duties, need to possess good communication skills in dealing with the general public. Duties include receptionist functions, water department billing, processing payments and reconciling daily receipts.  Starting pay is $13.50 per hour. High School diploma or equivalent and drug screening is required. Computer experience, cashier experience and bilingual ability is a plus. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the senseless and cold blooded killing of a 25-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office as he sat in his marked patrol vehicle waiting at a traffic light.

Sgt. Kenneth Vann, 45, was waiting at the intersection of SE Loop 410 and Rigsby Ave just after 2 A.M. this morning when a small white vehicle pulled up next to him on the right side and started shooting through the front passenger window, killing Sgt. Vann. Witnesses called police immediately who responded to the scene and discovered Sgt. Vann in the driver’s seat of his patrol vehicle under the Loop 410 overpass.

The San Antonio Police and US Marshalls Service are assisting Sheriff’s Detectives in following up on leads and interviewing witnesses. At this point, we don’t have a motive for the attack on Sgt. Vann. Sgt. Vann leaves behind his wife -- who is also a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office -- two sons and a daughter.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who may have any information about the murder of Sgt. Kenneth Vann, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 210.335.6000 or Crime Stoppers at 210.224.STOP (7867). Any information called into Crime Stoppers that leads to arrest can receive up to $5000.
