It’s about time
“Well, it’s about time!” That was sort of the sentiments of everyone in the midst of the storm the other day.
Springtime is supposed to bring rain and all we’ve had this year is wind and more wind. The trees are suffering and nothing seems to thrive on chlorinated city water. It takes water from the sky and our prayers were answered with a little the other day. Yes, we finally got some rain, much to the delight of nature and man alike.
The night before, the sky was full of lightning and the sound of thunder filled the area, but no rain. That sort of deflated the hope of receiving any as the chances in the forecast were pretty low anyway. Then, on Thursday morning, a cold front finally pushed its way south boiling up the atmosphere, developing some rolling black clouds with the promise of rain.
The wind began to blow and the temperature dropped quickly as the front pushed past, without a drop of rain. No! This can’t be happening! But it wasn’t long before the rain started and it continued to pour down for several hours. As thankful as we might be for that shower, we desperately need more rain. Keep it in your prayers as we have a hot, dry summer ahead of us, as usual.
It’s still spring and love is in the air. A young Scottish lad and lassie were sitting on a low rock wall, holding hands, and just gazing out over the loch. For several minutes they sat silently. Finally the girl looked at the boy and said, “A penny for your thoughts, Angus.”
“Well, uh,” stammered Angus, “I was thinkin’ ... perhaps it’s aboot time for a wee kiss.” The girl blushed, then leaned over and kissed him lightly on the cheek. Then he blushed. The two turned once again to gaze out over the loch. After awhile, the girl spoke again, “A penny for your thoughts, Angus.” “Well, uh,” again stammered Angus, “I was thinkin’ ... it’s noo aboot time for a wee cuddle.”
The girl blushed, then leaned over and cuddled him for a few seconds. Then he blushed. The two turned once again to gaze out over the loch. After awhile she again asked, “Another penny for your thoughts, Angus.” “Well, uh, I was thinkin’ ... perhaps it’s aboot time you let me put my arm around you and hold you tight.” The girl blushed, then took his hand and wrapped his arm around her waist. Then he blushed. Again they gazed out over the loch.
After awhile the girl questioned again, “Another penny for your thoughts, Angus.” The young man knit his brow, “Well now,” he said. “My thoughts are a bit more serious this time.” “Really?” quizzed the girl in a whisper. “Aye!” said the lad. The girl looked away in shyness, began to blush, and bit her lip in anticipation of the ultimate request. Angus said, “Din’na ye think it’s aboot time ye paid me the first three pennies?”
Greed can destroy everything good. (2 Timothy 2:11-4:5) Herbert Hoover said, “Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.” “Well, it’s about time I do something about this!” That’s a great attitude to have and express, but just what are you doing about it? Is arming yourself and fencing in your home the answer?
We’re watching our country slowly being destroyed, because God is not happy with the greed and bureaucracy in government and the corporate world. We, who trust in God, for real, will suffer at the hands of the world. The world is suffering in a drought of God’s blessings because man thinks he has it all under control. God doesn’t owe us anything.
“... if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us.” God bless us, again, I pray.
