St. James Catholic School brought home the gold to Seguin on May 14!

They competed in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) One-Act Play contest and received the gold medal, making them state champions for the first time in school history.

Their one-act play, “Snow White and the Seven Dudes,” presented the fairy tale of Snow White with a slightly Western twist, written by Matt Flick.

Congratulations and thanks to the director, Brenda Allen, and the assistant directors, Hedy Carter and Audrey Franz. Their guidance and talents truly make St. James shine.

In addition to being state champions, St. James Catholic School actors also collected five individual awards. Mitchell Moczygemba, Rio Russell, Shelby Garrett, and Lucero Guzman were named State All-Star Cast and Shane Sandee was Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.

The State One-Act Play competition was held on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth on May 14. It was St. James’ third consecutive appearance at the state competition. This is also their second consecutive state win, placing third last year with their performance of “The Day the Rooster Didn’t Crow.”

This is their first state championship in school history. A total of 27 schools competed, with eight advancing to State. Their principal, Deanna Sanchez, was very proud of her students, as she watched them receive their first-place medals on the stage.

“It’s so great to see students from middle school who aren’t afraid to act and share their talents on the stage. Having great costumes and directors also helped,” Sanchez said after their triumphant win.
