Summer reading is for everyone!
The Friends of the Wilson County Public Library will sponsor the library’s six-week reading summer reading program. There will be reading activities and prize opportunities for all ages from June 6 through July 15.
Preschoolers are invited to the library every Friday at 10 a.m. to share stories, make a craft, and an occasional snack. Elementary time at the library has been planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m., in the library. Six exciting topics have been chosen for their appeal to this age group’s fun time of discovery.
Tweens and Teens -- those entering grades 4-8 in the 2011-12 school year -- and interested in learning how to make short movies and digital posters on the computer are welcome to register for one of our five afternoon computer camps. Camp size is limited, so please register early.
Go global! As the Texas Teen Reading Club goes international, each Tuesday at 10 a.m., participants will learn fun facts about faraway countries and get a chance to make a craft item highlighting that destination. For the first time, adult readers also get to read for the prize this year. For every three books read or listened to, registered participants will earn the chance to enter their name into the adult readers’ grand prize ... a 3G Amazon Kindle.
Separate from the reading time and prizes, the Friends of the Library has arranged for three very special performers to visit us this summer and perform at 10 a.m. in the American Legion Hall. First up on June 6 to kick off the program, “Dr. Doolittle meets Bruce Springsteen when Lucas Miller brings his blend of science-oriented songs and stories” to the reading club. Next on June 23, Science Solutions will demonstrate active and engaging uses of everyday science. Finally, on July 15, as our grand finale to an amazing summer, “Spikey Mikey” performs his fabulous “I Love to Read” magic act.
