Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1945-2011

Victor A. Herrera, 66, of Karnes City, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, in Kenedy. He was born to Guadalupe Arriano and Victoriano Herrera Sr. on Jan. 13, 1945, in Robstown. He married Rosita Esparza on Aug. 1, 1964, in Karnes City. Victor was an oil field driller and a mechanic. He was a member of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City and resided most of his life in Karnes City.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Victor E. Herrera III.

He is survived by his wife, Rosita E. Herrera of Karnes City; his daughters, Michelle Lane and husband Linnell of San Antonio and Mary Jane Oballe and husband Daniel of Kenedy; his son, Mark Anthony Herrera of Karnes City; and five grandsons and two granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Annie Esparza; his nephew, Roland Esparza; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation was held Monday, May 30, at 3 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.

A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City with Father Stanislaw Marciniak officiating.

Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery in Karnes City.
