FLORESVILLE -- A man and woman are fortunate to have escaped with minor injuries after their pickup truck burst into flames. This was after a several men pulled them to safety following a crash at the intersection of U.S. 181 and Tiger Lane.

The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. May 31 and is still under investigation. Patrolman Eric Hutchinson of the Floresville Police Department said the vehicles involved were a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Timothy Jendrusch, 40, of Falls City and a Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by Maria Flores, 55, of Floresville.

Henry Sanders of Karnes City was inside the nearby Express Rent-to-Own shopping for an air conditioner when he said he heard the crash. He and store employee Mike Hernandez ran outside to see the Nissan on fire. Sanders, Hernandez, and Jendrusch saw that Flores and an unidentified male passenger could not escape the vehicle, so the three pulled the man and woman out through the truck’s windows. They then used a water hose connected to a spigot outside the store to extinguish the blaze.

Flores and her passenger were transported via ambulance to Connally Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries, Hutchinson said.
