GRADUATION: FHS Salutatorian George You
George is the 17-year-old son of Yumei and Mingjia. George You was the September Male Student of the Month.
As a former member of the FHS tennis team, George has won several titles. He is active in numerous other organizations as well. As a former member of the Mighty Tiger Band, George served as the brass lieutenant and section leader. He qualified for region band. As a member of the marching band, George advanced to Area finals. His freshman year he advanced to state in Solo and Ensemble. George has also been active in the Drama Club, participating in the 2009 Fall Production and Spring Musical. He is also a Link Crew leader.
In the classroom, George has also earned recognition. While maintaining a 4.0 GPA, he has been named to the “A” Honor Roll and was named the Outstanding Student of the Year in several classes. He was recognized with the Four-Year Perfect Attendance Award. George has received many scholarships, including the Floresville Peanut Festival Association Scholarship, the Floresville Academic Scholarship Fund, and the Lion’s Club H. W. Filleman Scholarship. He is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society.
George serves as president for both Leo Club and the Red Cross Club. While a member of the Leo Club, the organization earned the Leo Excellence Club Award. He has participated in community-service projects such as Relay For Life, a Breast Cancer Awareness Festival, Adopt-A-Family, and Adopt-A-Highway.
George is also a prince of the Floresville Peanut Festival Royal Court, serving as an ambassador for the city of Floresville at festivals across South Texas.
Upon graduation in June, George plans to attend the University of Michigan where he will major in actuarial science and finance.
