Katie Wiatrek has been named valedictorian of the Stockdale High School class of 2011.

Katie is the daughter of Larry and Penne Wiatrek and the sister of Karah Wiatrek. She is the granddaughter of Ray and Virginia Tidwell of San Antonio and the late Cleo Wiatrek and Mary Wiatrek, formerly of Stockdale. She is the great-granddaughter of Louise Faulkner of San Antonio and the late Annie Drzymala.

Katie was a member of the varsity volleyball team all four years of high school. She was named Honorable Mention All-District during her freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and first-team All-District her senior year. Katie was also a member of the varsity basketball team as a freshman, junior, and senior and was named Honorable Mention All-District during all three years. She was also named Academic All-District in volleyball and basketball for every season.

Katie advanced to the state UIL computer applications competition every year. She is the only individual from Stockdale High School to advance to the state UIL competition for four consecutive years.

Katie has been a member of the Gifted and Talented program since first grade. She was inducted into the Stockdale High School chapter of the National Honor Society as a sophomore and served as vice president as a senior. Katie was class treasurer as a freshman and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” as a senior. She was a member of the FFA all four years of high school.

Katie is an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko and also volunteers her time at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale. In 2009, Katie was crowned Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee Rodeo Queen.

Katie will graduate from Stockdale High School with 18 hours of college credit, and will attend Texas State University in San Marcos where she will pursue a degree in physical therapy.
