There are some spaces left in the Boys & Girls Club Summer Recreational Program, running throughout the summer for children ages 5-13 in the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center on S.H. 97.

The first camp session runs through Friday, July 1; the second begins Monday, Aug. 1, and ends Friday, Aug. 12. Both are from 1-6 p.m.

The cost is $15 per day for one child, $10 per day for a second child, and $8 for any child thereafter in the same family. Drop-ins are charged $25 per day. A $5 discount will be given for the first child if enrolled in other summer programs.

Each week, participants will learn about different continents, theater arts, container gardening, sewing, cooking, science, and more.

Mini camps for children ages 7-15 will take place in the Floresville River Park from 9 a.m. to noon, for $50 per child. These will feature flag football, boys baseball and girls softball, and volleyball. Optional mini classes are self-defense, social dancing, and drawing; fees are $20 per week.

The Texas Cheer Academy will hold cheerleading and tumbling classes for $5 per week. Visit for more information.

A swim team is open to children who can swim one lap unassisted. Practice will be every Tuesday and Friday morning through June and into July. Cost to participate is $60 per child. Scholarships are available based on need.

A basketball program for ages 5 and older costs $45 per child. The six-week program begins Thursday, June 16. All games are Thursday evenings. Coaches will determine practice schedules. Each child must provide a basketball.

For more information, call the Boys & Girls Club of Wilson County at 830-393-1800.
