The La Vernia Junior High School eighth-grade class held its awards night on May 17 at 6 p.m. in the new La Vernia Independent School District auditorium. It was a full house.

After a touching memorial to Glenn Hendrickson by student Allison Bukowski, parents and students were treated to a slide show created by Ashton Huth and the La Vernia Junior High School yearbook staff, highlighting the eighth-grade student body.

Awards given that evening were perfect attendance, National History Day, VASE, Odyssey of the Mind, UIL, Presidential Education Achievement Award, Presidential Education Excellence Award, and L awards.

The final award of the evening presented by Joe Cicherski was the American Legion Award to the top male and female eighth-grade students. The recipients of the American Legion Award were Hannah Jarzombek and Hunter Saxon. The award ceremony was followed by a special dance for eighth-grade students only, with La Vernia’s own Rhonda Broll spinning the music.

Good luck to the future senior class of 2015!
