State cattlemen’s trade show, convention set for Galveston
Registration is now open for the 37th annual Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas (ICA) Convention and Trade Show Wednesday through Friday, June 22-24, at the Moody Gardens Hotel and Spa in Galveston.
The Bonus Beef Cattle Program will be held on Wednesday. Topics include herd health; safe, effective cattle handling; beef cattle nutrition; cattle harvest regulations at the processing plant; and techniques on weed control for pastures.
Thursday’s Cattlemen’s Conference includes health strategies and concepts that can improve the productivity of the cow/calf enterprise.
General sessions will include presentations on the benefits and risks of drought insurance; strategies for selection of replacement heifers; update on the Beef Check-off; and the role of U.S. beef in the world market.
Friday will be a fast-paced, information-packed morning starting with a discussion on Texas oil and gas leasing by Judon Fambrough, a nationally renowned speaker. The morning will wrap up with industry updates from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association and a Texas Legislature update from the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture Drew DeBerry.
