The American Legion Post 435 will sponsor a watermelon-growing contest to be held during the 67th annual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee, set for Thursday through Saturday, June 16-18, in Stockdale.

Entries must be delivered to Bang Electric & Air, located on Main Street in Stockdale, no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 16.

Official weigh-in will take place from 5-6 p.m at Bang Electric & Air.

The contest is open to any resident of Wilson County. The melon must be grown in Wilson County, and any variety of melon may be entered. Entry fee is $20 plus six ripe melons to be donated to the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce.

The heaviest melon in the county will be declared “King Jubilee”! All entries will become the property of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce.

The winning melons and their growers will be invited to participate in the Watermelon Jubilee Parade on the morning of Saturday, June 18. The top grower will be introduced at the Jubilee Parade and during the Jubilee rodeo on Saturday.

For more information, call Greg Schmidt at 830-996-1300 or e-mail gwschmidt@bangelectric.net .
