Viola Potts, a resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 4:45 p.m. in the Country Care Manor Nursing Home in La Vernia at the age of 80 years and five days. Viola was born May 30, 1931, in Kerrville, the daughter of S. L. and Ruth Hainline Triggo.

She graduated salutatorian from Charlotte High School in 1948. Viola married Murray F. Potts on June 18, 1951, in Bandera. Viola worked for the Bandera Sheriff’s Office and later for the Atascosa County Clerk. Viola was a clerk in the county clerk’s office, administrative assistant for District Attorney J. Taylor Brite and later District Judge Brite. She moved to the sheriff’s office with the beginning of Tommy Williams’s election to sheriff, until her retirement on May 31, 1993.

She was a member of Eastern Star and the First Lutheran Church, where she loved working with members on different tasks. Her hobbies included quilting and cooking. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up, and was the typical Grandma who loved baking cookies all the time.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 28 years, Murray F. Potts; and her sister, Allene Kelley.

She is survived by her children, Murray Franklin Potts Jr. of Pleasanton and Valerie Ruth Steele and husband Donnie of Floresville; her grandchildren, Cody Potts of Fort Stockton, Kayla Lovely and husband James of Florida, and Megan Steele and Donella Ruth Steele of Floresville; her great-grandson, Jordan Lovely of Florida; her brother, Lynton Palmero of Sinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 9, at 9 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville.

Interment followed at 2 p.m. in the San Miguel Cemetery in McMullen County.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tommy Williams, Leonard Orth, Steve Gonzales, Travis Hall, Joe Peters, David Soward, and Tommy Henry. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
