Help Wanted

ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Compensation is at a rate of $200 per week plus $100 per completed and submitted crisis assessment, and mileage. If interested call Camino Real Community Services, 210-357-0359.

Maria V. Casanova, 90, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born March 12, 1921.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Frances (Ramirez) Villarreal; her husband, Macario “Mike” Casanova; her daughters, Ester and Belina Casanova; her brothers, Manuel and Samuel Villarreal Jr.; and her sister, Irene Hernandez.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Julia Lopez and husband Refugio of Seguin, Mary Ann Sauceda and husband Joe of Corpus Christi, Elia Garza of Corpus Christi, and Excquia “Excie” Balderas and husband Oscar of Corpus Christi; children adopted and loved, Emilio Casanova and Edward Casanova and wife Elida, all of Corpus Christi, and Corina Salinas and husband Sealo of Stockdale; her sisters, Tomasita Honesto of Lubbock, Evangelina Martinez of Pandora, and Eva Martinez of Stockdale; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held Tuesday, June 7, from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Isaac Rangel and the Rev. Luis Galvan officiating.

Interment followed in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Wilson County.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
