Fireworks will not be a part of the July 4th celebration for residents living in unincorporated areas of Wilson County.

Gov. Rick Perry granted Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney’s request for a disaster declaration today. As part of the declaration, no fireworks can be sold, used, transported, or ignited within the county. The order begins retroactive to June 13 and extends until 7 a.m. July 5, which extends one day past the summer fireworks season.

Quinney requested the disaster declaration June 13 after a meeting of the Wilson County Commissioners Court, in which the county’s burn ban was renewed. Both actions were taken because of an ongoing drought.

Hot, dry weather continues to plague the region. At Stinson Field, which is the nearest weather station maintained by the Austin-San Antonio National Weather Service Forecast Office, less than four inches of rainfall has been measured there since Jan. 1. There have already been 15 days of 100-degree-plus temperatures since May 8, with a 104-degree reading being posted at Stinson yesterday.

Nuketroop: This ban includes the sale of all fireworks. If you see a firworks stand open during this period, report it to the sheriff.

I hope it is enforced... You'd think that stands everywhere in south Texas would be closed..

Will be interesting to see if the city of floresville still does fireworks or if they allow a little common sense to come into play.... We all like fireworks, but the risks seem to outweigh the rewards.

YEA! Thank you Judge Quinney and our Commissioners. We do not need another fire becaues of unattended kids and teenagers shooting off bottle rockets and other dangerous fire works. This is onen less thing to worry about..
