FLORESVILLE -- Floresville City Manager Andy Joslin and Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) Executive Director Jesse Perez have canceled the fireworks show planned for July 4 in the Floresville River Park on S.H. 97.

For the past three years, the FEDC has sponsored the fireworks show, which this year was set to headline an all-day event in the River Park and at the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center. However, ongoing drought conditions prompted officials to proceed with caution.

“Due to the lack of rain and the extreme fire hazard, it is in the best interest of the city to ensure that everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July,” said the city’s Constituent Liaison Sherry Pollok.

The other events -- which include free swimming in the city pool and musical entertainment -- are set to continue as planned.

There may be no fireworks this time, but the music, games, swimming, tournaments, Taste of Floresville and the OSOTexas band will all go on as scheduled, so come on out for a good time in Floresville on July 4th.
