Another fugitive with a $15,000 reward still at large

A new program that offers extra money for featured fugitives paid off with the capture of one of the state’s Most Wanted sex offenders in San Antonio yesterday. The anonymous tipster will pocket $6,000 in cash provided by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division.

As a result of the tip, DPS Criminal Investigations Agents arrested Antonio Garcia, 35, at a car wash located at 1248 S. Saint Mary’s Street in San Antonio yesterday afternoon. The original reward was $1,000, but it was increased to $6,000 for this month only.

Garcia was wanted for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements in Harris County and had been on the run since 2007. He spent time in prison for his part in the brutal gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in Hidalgo County in 1993. For additional information, view Garcia’s wanted poster at:

DPS and the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division kicked off the new program June 1, offering an extra $5,000 in reward money for a Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and a Top 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender in hopes of generating additional tips to the Texas Crime Stoppers program. Two different fugitives will be featured each month. The higher reward amount will only be paid if the tip comes in the same month the fugitives are featured.

This month’s featured Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive is still at large--and his reward is now up to $15,000 for the month of June only. Rene Morales Munoz (pictured http://www.wilsoncountynews.com/article.php?id=35782&n=breaking-news-dps-features-most-wanted-fugitives), who was last seen in San Antonio, is a Mexican Mafia member wanted in connection with a 2005 Frio County murder. The 43-year-old has been a fugitive for six years and has a lengthy, violent criminal history. Munoz is also suspected in several other crimes, including a kidnapping and sexual assault. For more information on Munoz, view his wanted poster at:
