New owners begin to rebuild former Quail Run Golf Club
LA VERNIA -- While it has taken more than a year to negotiate and reach a deal, the Quail Run Golf Club, also known as the Lynx at Las Palomas, has been sold. Work is now under way to rebuild the course, construct a driving range, and open a new restaurant.
Seguin native Jess Turner, along with Ron Johnson, a silent partner from North Texas, reportedly closed on the purchase of the golf course June 7. The previous owners -- an investment company from Oklahoma -- were reportedly paid about $500,000 for the property, located off F.M. 539.
During a June 14 telephone interview, Turner said his first plan of action is to build a covered driving range, and then to begin construction of a new restaurant. He said work would also begin immediately to repair the water wells and systems on the property.
The golf course is in terrible condition, and Turner said their approach would be to rebuild it, as opposed to attempting to reclaim it. He confirmed the project will not be cheap or easy, but said he is confident they can make it into one of the best courses anywhere in the country. He is currently working to acquire new equipment, and expects construction to begin immediately.
“It’s not going to go down this time,” Turner said, as he made reference to the course’s failed history under several different owners. “We are going to have the right people involved, and it’s going to be a wonderful facility.”
The name will be changed to Paradise Golf and Country Club, and Turner said he expects it to feel like “paradise” when it is complete.
