Sixteen Floresville High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets recently attended the six-day Air Force Lone Star summer leadership academy hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio and Trinity University. More than 500 cadets from 33 high schools and three states participated in this year’s leadership academy. The cadets came from Air Force and Navy JROTC units in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Outstanding graduates from the 2010 summer leadership academy, cadets Kathryn Donnell and Adam Hussey, served as this year’s cadet training officers.

Floresville High School students who graduated from this year’s leadership academy were Oscar Gonzales, Jimmy Garza, Zach Taylor, Jena McKay, James Dyches, Cory Sheaffer, George Gibson, Jose Serna, Jocelyn Martinez, Luis Occhiuzzi, Jasmine Geromiller, Corene Studstill, Naisha Harris, and Skylar Dailey.

The cadets were awakened at 4:45 a.m. each morning for physical fitness and individually judged in drill and ceremonies, uniform and dorm room inspections, and academics. Evening sports competitions included volleyball, kickball, tug-of-war, and push-ups. The cadets also had the opportunity to participate in the high-ropes confidence course and paintball competitions at John Newcombe’s Ranch near New Braunfels, the Adventure Challenge course at Mo Ranch in Hunt, and they also rappelled down Enchanted Rock north of Fredericksburg.
