University partners with USMC scholar program
COLLEGE STATION -- All 11 universities in the Texas A&M University System have partnered with the new Leadership Scholar Program developed by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide guaranteed college admission to pre-screened and fully qualified Marines who have left active duty, according to an April 20 press release.
Launched in late 2010, the LSP project directs Marine applicants to a national network of universities which agree to special fast-track review and/or admission. Marines must apply for the program through their commanding officers, who initiate a screening process to ensure the service member meets or exceeds all requirements of the university to which he or she applies. Each prospective student may be fully funded through the GI Bill, potentially as much as $52,000 for a four-year degree program.
The A&M System’s universities make Texas one of the most extensive participants in the USMC program in the country. Other higher education institutions that have joined the LSP include Rutgers, Colgate, Virginia Tech, the Cal State system, and the University of North Carolina system.
