Allen Marvin Collins, 63, passed away Friday, June 24, in his home in Poth, Texas, after a battle with colon cancer.

Allen’s outgoing personality and sense of humor about life touched all those he met. He loved his wife, his family and friends, his cows, and a cold beer, said his family.

Allen attended St. Gerard Schools and Texas A&I-Kingsville where he completed his Bachelor of Science in plants and soils. He worked at the Padre Isle Golf Course, did custom farming, worked as a carpenter, contractor, teacher, and worked at Soil Conservation Services and for the FDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service. He was a talented artist in oils, chalk, pen, and ink. Allen also enjoyed photography and woodworking.

Allen and Vee moved to Poth in 1973 when they married. Allen could tell tall stories and make you believe they really happened.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Guzley, the staff of Cancer Care Center of South Texas, the staff of Methodist Hospital 8 South, and to Amy and Alicia of Vista Care Hospice for their personal care and attention.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Carolyn Collins.

He is survived by his wife Vee Violenta Moczygemba Collins; his brother, John Collins and wife Geri; his sisters, Mary Semlinger and husband Doug, Joyce Boyd Mildred Moczygemba and husband Zeke, and Ruth Willey and husband Greg; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a large “extended” family and friends.

A Mass of the Resurrection and celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, June 28, at 11 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth with Father Grzegorz Szewczyk, S.D.S. officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Gerard’s High School in San Antonio; the Poth Volunteer Fire Department; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
