Ellen Pavliska of Floresville has been chosen as the Young Artist Pianist for San Antonio’s Cactus Pear Music Festival, “Tour de Musique 15,” July 7-17, with performances in San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Boerne.

As a Young Artist, Ellen will participate in the program under full tuition scholarship, learning and performing with other musicians in a chamber ensemble.

Her participation will include daily private instruction and coaching with festival artists, lecture classes, and performance in eight community engagements.

In June, Ellen participated for the second time in the Texas State International Piano Festival, sponsored by Texas State University. She was one of 29 students from around the world accepted into the festival, where she studied with distinguished teachers from the nation’s top conservatories in both master classes and private lessons.

Ellen recently completed her final season of pre-collegiate piano competitions. She represented the San Antonio Area in the semifinals of the TMTA State Level Piano Competition in Arlington, ultimately placing second. In May, she won the $2,500 second prize in the Snowy Range Piano Competition, sponsored by the Linford Pfeifer Foundation, in partnership with the University of Wyoming.

Her summer schedule has included participation in the Musical Arts Centers of San Antonio Honors Recital; the Summer Showcase of Young Pianists, sponsored by the San Antonio International Piano Competition; and the Texas State International Piano Festival Recital.

She has been featured on Texas Public Radio’s “Classical Spotlight,” in an interview by radio host John Clare. Video of her performance of Rachmaninoff’s “Etude, Op. 39, No. 1” can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/15838283.

A recent home-school graduate, Ellen currently studies with Kenneth Thompson, executive director of the Musical Arts Centers of San Antonio. In the fall, she will attend the University of North Texas, where she has been accepted into the piano studio of Dr. Pamela Mia Paul on a full music scholarship.
