Lily Joe Polan, 90, formerly of Nixon, Texas, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, in Seguin. She was born in Nixon on Oct. 24, 1920, and was a member of the Nixon United Methodist Church.

Lily Joe was preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Rachel (Hensley) Martin; her husband, Thomas B. Polan Jr.; and her son, Tom Polan.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Carter and husband Mark of Seguin and Rachelle Nielsen and husband Ben of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Polan of San Antonio; her sister, Lucile Dunn of Seguin; her brother, Jimmie Martin of Ozona; a brother-in-law, Glenn Polan and wife Ruth of Houston; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A visitation was held on Sunday, July 3, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

A graveside funeral service was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon with the Rev. Patricia Jentsch officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nixon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 20, Nixon, TX 78140.
