FLORESVILLE -- Dr. Jerry Lee Hunkapiller has been named the lone finalist in the Floresville Independent School District (ISD) superintendent search. The district’s board unanimously approved his selection during a July 7 special meeting.

Hunkapiller has served for almost five years as the superintendent of the Millsap ISD. The married father of five will succeed Dr. David Vinson, who resigned earlier this year after being selected as the superintendent of the Wylie ISD.

According to its website, the Millsap ISD is a 2A school district located west of Fort Worth. It is home to approximately 775 students who reside over an area of 124 square miles.

Hunkapiller is set to officially take the helm Aug. 1. The state’s Education Code requires the district’s board to wait at least 21 days to formally hire him.

OAD that sounds fantastic, im jealous. Enjoy. Only a couple more days before this is final, so i reckon we need to welcome Jerry - might as well hold a ceremony where we burn some cash in a barrel to mark the occassion.

It is too hot in Texas, so my wife and I are going as high up in the Rockie Mountains as we can go, and spend about six weeks in cool weather. Everyone have fun throwing journalistic rocks at each other.

OAD - im sure MM was speaking figuratively, and is not a liar. You say she's just angry because she lost votes, but you have no idea if that's accurate. You don't know if she in fact feels lied to because she voted FOR ... More ›

Millsap Mom, The word "most" is still a lie. Name me one Texas school official who has in the past 24 months been convicted of fraud. You are just a miserable, mean spirited old woman who is mad because your side ... More ›

OAD, i believe I used the word "most" in reference to school finance. I was taught to never argue with an idiot; and you sir....are an idiot. So, I'm done. Good luck FISD.

Why would we hire someome who has failed at a smaller role? A rush job by the board. Completely irresponsible.

Millsap Mom, I agreed with you and you called me an idiot. Go figure! Indeed I do have a vested interest in school taxes because I have several grandchildren in public schools. I not only pay school taxes on my home, I also ... More ›

Millsap Mom, I agree with your quote: "money does not equal education; so why spend it beyond what is absolutely needed." Who decides how much is absolutely needed? The good people of Millsap. They approved a ... More ›
