LOCKHART -- After a strong showing and thrilling win in the title game, the La Vernia Little League 10-year-old softball All-Star team is celebrating a championship.

The team representing La Vernia was made up of the best 10-year-old players from three regular-season softball teams. After the regular season ended, the all-stars selected from the different teams practiced nearly every day for two weeks to polish and hone their skills -- and to get on the same page. They quickly became teammates and left the competition of the regular season behind them in their attempt to bring home a championship banner for the La Vernia Little League.

The dedicated players and their supportive parents made multiple long trips to Lockhart for the tournament, which was held June 17-20. La Vernia won throughout the tournament, and eventually landed in the championship game against the home-field-advantaged Lockhart All-Stars.

La Vernia jumped ahead in the first inning of the title game, but lost the lead in the middle innings. In its last at-bat, though, La Vernia earned several runs to assume a commanding 14-7 advantage. The Lockhart All-Stars had their final at-bat remaining, but La Vernia’s defense only allowed 1 run in the final inning to take home the championship with a 14-8 win.

The girls were said to have represented the La Vernia Little League, as well as the La Vernia and East Central communities, proudly with hard work, good sportsmanship, and teamwork.
