Ronald H. Marr Sr.
Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. Ronald H. Marr Sr., 73, of Georgetown, Texas, died in his home Friday, July 1, 2011. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 7, 1938.
He had a long career of more than 23 years of service in the Army. During that time, he served three tours of duty in Vietnam, and was stationed in Germany, Japan, Italy, and Sicily. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, and was a Master Jumper. He was a member of the Special Forces with CIA connections. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Liberty Hill Masonic Lodge No. 432, and the Alzafar Shriners.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Janice A. Marr; and his mother, Lillian Galletta.
He is survived by his sons, John Marr and wife Betty Jo of Austin, Ronald Marr Jr. and wife Carrie of Belton, Thomas Marr and wife Belinda of Austin, Richard Marr and wife Colleen of La Place, La., and Donald Marr and wife Leatha of Georgetown; his daughter, Sheryl White of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held Wednesday, July 6, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.
A funeral service was held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. J.P. Kessie officiating.
Burial followed in the Nixon Cemetery.
