Alvin Zidek, a longtime resident of the Stevens community in Wilson County, Texas, entered into eternal rest Monday, July 4, 2011, at 12:50 a.m., at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 6 days.

He was born Sept. 28, 1925, in the Blackhill community in Wilson County to Ed and Mary Zavesky Zidek.

Alvin married the love of his life, Georgia Pavelka, on June 24, 1953, in Violett. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a farmer, rancher, and carpenter during his lifetime. Alvin was very proud of his Czech heritage and was a member of the Polka Lovers Club, the San Antonio Czech Choral Club, and the SPJST for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Maxine Gold; and his brother-in-law, David Gold.

Alvin is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Georgia Zidek of the Stevens community; his children, Alan Zidek and wife Vickie of Falls City, Nancy Lyssy and husband Melvin of Falls City, John Zidek of Floresville, and Lisa Vyvlecka and husband Brady of Pleasanton; his brother, George Zidek and wife Pauline of the Blackhill community; his grandchildren, Natalie, Jonathan, Michael, Steven, Anthony, Scott, Matthew, Olivia, Emily, Collin, and Faith; two great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Jerome Pavelka and wife Helen of Robstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation began at 5 p.m., and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel in Floresville with Father Stefan Wiera, S.D.S., officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Alvin’s grandsons, Michael Lyssy, Steven Lyssy, Anthony Lyssy, and Matthew Zidek; and his nephew, Karl Zidek.

The family requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
