Alice Maria Maher Stoeltje, 77, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011. She was born on Nov. 30, 1933, in New Orleans, La.

A graduate of Redemptorist High School in New Orleans, Alice was an executive secretary for Dietzgen Drafting Co. prior to marrying Robert Stoeltje of Poth, Texas.

Alice then spent 25 years traveling with her husband, a U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue pilot, before making their permanent home in Seguin in 1981. Alice worked for the Guadalupe County tax assessor and the appraisal district until her retirement. She was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church who volunteered for many years with the Christian Cupboard. Alice was an avid bridge player, voracious reader, and spirited Republican.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sarah Selby Maher; her siblings, Robert Maher, Katherine Peri, James Maher, Evelyn Lestelle, Mary Tiedemann, Theresa Maher, Agnes Montreuil, and John Maher.

Alice is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Stoeltje; her five children, Mark Stoeltje of San Antonio, Cathy Horvath of Seguin, Lori Evans of San Antonio, Amy Randolph of Carmichaels, Pa., and Matthew Stoeltje of Kuwait; seven grandchildren, Kelly Larrieu, Nicole Larrieu, Sam Stoeltje, Eli Lay, James Stoeltje, Ryan Horvath, and Pilar Randolph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Nursing & Rehabilitation and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center; Carol Lee, Diana Irwin, and all the caring, dedicated staff of Guadalupe Regional Hospice; and Mona Pantoja, Yolanda Solano, Gloria Flores, and Gloria Castellon, who cared for her at home in her final days under the guidance of Guadalupe Regional Hospice.

A rosary was recited on Friday, July 8, at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin, followed by visitation with the family.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Seguin.

Serving as pallbearers were Sam Stoeltje, Eli Lay, James Stoeltje, Ryan Horvath, Peter Horvath, and Greg Peri.

Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23509.
