FLORESVILLE -- The Falls City High School cheerleaders moved their annual golf tournament from Pleasanton to the River Bend Golf Club at Floresville this year, and the change resulted in the best turnout in the event’s 10-year history.

“We had 96 golfers,” said event coordinator Phil Moy following the July 9 tournament. “People came out of the woodwork. It was good, though. We had a lot of fun.”

Hosting nearly 100 golfers for the single-day tournament was no small feat, and Moy admitted it took a great deal of coordination and effort by everyone involved.

“Everyone at the club was wonderful, and a big ‘hats off’ to the cheer moms and dads,” Moy said. “The cheer moms put in a lot of hard work with all the goodie bags and other things, and the dads did all the cooking. And the food was great.”

As in years past, the funds raised by the event will help cover expenses for the Falls City High School cheerleaders to attend camp. A portion of the money will also be used for uniforms and other miscellaneous expenses that arise throughout the year.

“This is their biggest fund-raiser of the year,” Moy said.

Moy said the cheerleaders are looking forward to another great year, and was quick to cheer on Falls City’s favorite sons and daughters.

“Go Beavers,” he added.

For more information on the tournament, or to help with a donation to the Falls City cheerleaders, call Phil Moy at 830-583-4326 or Vernon Blocker at 210-633-6945.
