Justine A. Brenek passed away peacefully Sunday, July 10, 2011, in Karnes City, Texas. With loving family at her side, Justine went on to eternal life with the Lord at the age of 88. Justine was born May 6, 1923, to Mike and Veronica Keller Janysek in Helena.

She married Felix Moczygemba on April 18, 1944. On Sept. 14, 1952, she gave birth to a daughter, Patricia “Patty” Carol. On Dec. 25, 1952, her husband, Felix, passed away.

Justine remarried on March 2, 1957, to Walter Brenek. After 24 loving years together, Walter passed away Jan. 14, 1981.

Justine had a career in the grocery business. She worked her way up to grocery manager at the Karnes Mercantile in Karnes City. After retiring, she worked at home as a babysitter.

She was a devoted member of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church. When she was not attending church, she loved doing yard work or watching her beloved San Antonio Spurs basketball team on TV.

Justine was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; and a brother, Bennie Janysek.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty Toothman and husband Hank of Karnes City; granddaughters Tricia Williams and husband Sean of Somerset and Michelle Janik of Las Vegas; grandson Michael Janik of Corpus Christi; great-grandchildren Kellie and Tyler Williams; sisters Domitillia Kyrish of San Antonio, Lucy Waclawczyk of San Antonio, Ruth Prasek of Karnes City, and Lillian Bujnoch and husband Melvin of Floresville; and sister-in-law Valeria Janysek of Karnes City.

A rosary was recited Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City.

Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Serving as pallbearers were Sean Williams, Gary Michael Kyrish, Robert Huth, Matthew Janacek, Gilbert Fragosa, and Mark Janysek.
