Raymond F. Danysh, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2011. He was born March 1, 1919, in Yorktown, Texas.

He was a highly respected home builder and remodeler for more than 50 years in the local San Antonio area.

Raymond and his wife, Helen, were married in 1938, and farmed in the Yorktown area until 1945. He moved to San Antonio and worked for G.S. McCreless, home builder, starting as a carpenter and advancing to the position of general superintendent. While there, he worked with Southwest Research Institute in constructing the first concrete slab foundations for homes for the FHA, making cedar post foundations a thing of the past.

In 1955, he joined with Bob Jones, later a San Antonio city councilman, and formed D.J. Developers. They developed homes from Clark Avenue to Highlands High School in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He later formed Home Services Construction Co., which he operated until 2009 when, at the age of 90, he was forced to retire due to failing health.

Raymond was known for his hobbies of restoring antique brass light fixtures, and design and construction of furniture, particularly of mesquite and walnut. Because of his reputation for honesty and quality construction, his counsel and work are already sorely missed by his family, numerous longtime customers, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen (Wollny); and his infant daughter, Earline Joyce.

Raymond is survived by three of his four children and their spouses, Mel and Carolyn Danysh, Charlotte and David Putnam, and Pat Danysh; his grandchildren and their spouses, Heather (Danysh) and Lawrence Ronk of Dallas, Kirsten (Danysh) and Nathan Shilling of Austin, Matthew and Laura Danysh of Alexandria, Va., and Gretchen Danysh of Dallas; his great-grandsons, Nicholas and Jackson Shilling, Caleb Danysh, and Noah Ronk; his brother, Sigmond “Jack” Danysh and wife Clara of San Antonio; and numerous other family and friends.

The family wishes to express its sincerest appreciation to Raymond’s longtime caregiver and family friend, Trini Ramon.

A visitation was held on Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. Gerard Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Interment followed in the Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.

Raymond’s last project was participation in the restoration of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, where he was a member for 64 years.

Donations to the St. Gerard Restoration Fund, 1523 Iowa St., San Antonio, TX 78203-1817, would be a fitting memorial to his life.
