Irma Vogel Radtke
Irma Vogel Radtke, 95, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2011, with her husband and children by her side. She was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Converse, Texas.
A devout Catholic her entire life, the church communities of St. Jerome and St. Gerard were important parts of her life. She dearly loved the organizations she belonged to in her younger years. These included the Altar Society, Rosary Society, Parent-Teacher Organization, Merry Pals Bowling Club, and later on, several bunco clubs.
She enjoyed traveling throughout Texas, competing in nine-pin bowling tournaments with her husband. She worked at Joskes of Texas for several years in the jewelry department and later at the Woman’s Shop and enjoyed interacting with customers. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and was always interested in their lives. She was the family historian, with a keen mind for details and never forgot any kindness shown her. She will be greatly missed but deeply cherished by all who knew and loved her, said her family.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Elgin; a daughter, Eva Nell; her parents, Franz and Anna Vogel; her brothers, Peter, Alouis, Ben, Ottmar, and Hilmer Vogel; and her sisters, Ida Albrecht, Hilda Engel, and Otillia Schraub.
Irma is survived by her devoted husband of 73 years, Walter Radtke; her son, Maurice Radtke and wife Chris of Smiley; her daughter, Joyce Hartmann and husband Clarence of La Vernia; her grandchildren, Edie Rodriguez of Galveston, Audrey and Maurice Radtke Jr. of Smiley, Elgin Radtke, Carl Radtke and wife Vickie of Melbourne, Fla., Clint Hartmann and wife Michelle of Seguin, and Kristie Carlisle and husband Gary of Montgomery; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by Otto and Emma Radtke, Henrietta Kusmierz, Josephine Mivelaz, and Mildred Radtke.
A visitation took place Wednesday, July 13, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
A Mass was celebrated on
Thursday at 2 p.m. in the St. Jerome Catholic Church in San Antonio with Father John Flanagan officiating.
Interment followed in the St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and the two oldest great-grandsons; honorary pallbearers were Jerry Vogel, Herman Vogel, Lee Vogel, Charles Schraub, and Jerry Wyatt.
