The recall has expanded to those sold under the GHSW brand. The FDA has released the following:
GHSW, LLC of Houston, Texas is recalling fresh cut fruit products containing papaya because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The products listed in this recall were distributed to retail establishments and distribution centers in Texas.
GHSW was notified that papayas used in the products listed below were associated with the Agromod Produce, Inc. papaya recall dated July 23, 2011. Acting on an abundance of caution, GHSW is voluntarily recalling the following products containing papaya which are packaged in plastic containers. No known illnesses have been associated with GHSW, LLC products, including the products listed below.
