Five members of the Wilson County 4-H Dog Project attended the 40th annual Texas 4-H Dog Show in July. It was held July 8-10 in the Bell County Expo Center in Belton.

They walked away with ribbons and trophies for rally, obedience, agility, confirmation, and showmanship!

Braydon Hix and Magic, a Belgian Tervuren, received third place in conformation in purebred special and sixth place in showmanship open intermediate.

Job Keith and Kylie, a Lab mix, placed second in rally-novice A junior and sixth in conformation-non-purebred over 56 pounds.

Christine Colby and Stubbs, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, received participation in conformation-herding, fifth in showmanship-novice intermediate, participation in jumpers with weaves novice, and participation in photography -- still life category.

Sarah Keith placed second in the hound group for conformation and third in rally-novice A senior with Chief, a Bloodhound; and ninth in the toy group with her Pomeranian, Squeekers.

Gina Colby placed fifth in rally-novice A intermediate and first in conformation-non-purebred over 56 pounds with Chilo, a Pit mix; fifth in obedience pre-novice B intermediate; fourth in conformation- non-purebred under 25 pounds, and second in showmanship-open intermediate with Kirby, her Pug/Boston Terrier mix; and participation in photography -- still life and active categories.

This is the first year that the Wilson County 4-H has had a dog project group and it was a great success! The group meets on a monthly basis during the school year to cover the 4-H dog project curriculum that teaches kids about being a responsible pet owner. Also, for the kids who have chosen to take part in the dog show in July, Elly McCarthy, an AKC judge, hosted a handling class. In class, the kids learn about showing their dogs, rally, obedience, and even agility.
