Irene Mary Pawelek, 90, of Alamo Heights, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. She was born Mar. 25, 1921, in Panna Maria, to John Pawelek and Regina Dupnik.

Irene lived in the Hobson community all her life; in 2007, she moved in with her family in China Grove. For the past 2-1/2 years, she lived in a nursing facility in Alamo Heights. She farmed and ranched all her life and later cared for her parents. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria, and also attended the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hobson.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rosie J. Wiatrek; and her brother-in-law, Robert Pruski.

She is survived by her sister, Annie Frances Pruski of China Grove; her brother-in-law, Alex Wiatrek of Hobson; her nieces and nephews, Ethel Russell, Gerry Pruski, Allen Pruski, and Geralyn Labus; numerous cousins; and great-nieces and -nephews.

A rosary was recited on Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Serving as pallbearers were Gerry Pruski, Allen Pruski, Mark Labus, Joseph Russell, David Jarzombek, and Tom Pawlik.
