1914-2011

Gladys Spears Risinger passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011. A resident of San Antonio, Texas, for more than 80 years, Gladys was born at home in Stockdale on Aug. 18, 1914, the fourth of six children of Wade and Mary Spears.

Gladys moved to San Antonio after high school and became a licensed cosmetologist. She married Richard “Pat” Risinger in 1937 and had five children, who grew up in Austin and San Antonio.

Gladys was the beautiful Elizabeth Arden representative at Frost Bros. until her retirement at 65. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and in the United States, where she enjoyed meeting family in national parks. Gladys was a dear daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend to many. She was well-loved and will be missed by all, her family said.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years in 1982; their eldest son, Robert R. Risinger and wife Lois, in 2009 in Santa Monica, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Betty Dunbar and husband Terry of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Pat C. Risinger and wife Sandie of Sealy, Mil Avery of Allen, and Dee Risinger of Mineral, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jayne Jackson of Kingwood; and 12 nieces and nephews.

The visitation was held on Friday, July 29, from 5-8 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Gladys was buried next to her husband in the Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio.
