WICHITA, Kan. -- Adrian Nunez, 11, of La Vernia recently qualified to compete in a national track and field competition. The youngster traveled all the way to Kansas for the event, and ran well enough to grab 14th place overall.

Nunez trained hard during the weeks of downtime he had, and actually managed to shave 3 seconds off his personal best time in the 800-meter run. While it was exciting for Nunez to post a personal best, the time fell short of advancing him into the finals. Still, the young man remained upbeat about the entire experience.

“Given the fact that this was the first time I have competed in track and field, I’m very happy with my performance,” Nunez said.

Nunez said he plans to run cross country in preparation for next year, and looks forward to competing for La Vernia Junior High School.
