Falls City library Summer Reading ends

Wow, it’s hard to believe that summer is half over and school will be starting soon.

It’s even harder to believe that the Falls City Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Dig Up a Good Book,” has ended, too. But what a great time we had with all the kids who came to the library.

The first fun activity was to make fossils using craft clay and seashells. There were quite a few interesting shapes and a few “fossils” that have probably never been seen before. The next week, the kids made edible dirt cups, with pudding, Oreos, and gummy worms. It was a cool, tasty treat for a hot summer afternoon.

On June 23, Mr. Puppet came to the library to entertain the audience with his zany cast of characters and his special talent as a ventriloquist. For our last program, that crazy Spikey Mikey the Magician came by to dazzle us with his magical artistry.

On July 1, certificates were awarded and door prizes given to all those in attendance.

Out of the 85 children who registered for the Summer Reading Program, 64 of them completed the requirements to earn a certificate.

The Falls City Public Library would like to thank Pollok’s Store, the Busy Beaver, Janet Dziuk, and the city of Falls City for their donations and support of the library’s programs. We especially want to thank the parents and caregivers for bringing the kids to the library and for encouraging them to keep reading.

We are looking forward to next year’s Summer Reading Program with the theme of “Get a Clue!” So kiddos, keep reading, keep coming to see us at the library, and have a great summer.
