1927-2011

Melvin Alfred Hosek, 73, of Karnes City, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2011. He was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Floresville to Charles and Annie Supak Hosek.

Melvin was a retired truck driver, a member of a poker group, and the morning coffee group. He loved gambling in Louisiana and fishing with his family. He was also famous for growing tomatoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lee Hosek; and his sister, Lilly Magel.

Melvin is survived by his brothers, Charlie and William Hosek, both of San Antonio, Edward Hosek of Floresville, and Eugene Hosek of West; his sisters, Bessie Green of New Braunfels, Adela Krebs of Marion, and Mary Rose Pell of Natalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited on Wednesday, August 3, at 7 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Carl Hosek, Larry Krebs, Rodney Krebs, Harold Franke, John Vrzalik, and John Green.

The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Three Oaks Volunteer Fire Department, 13476 F.M. 2505, McCoy, TX 78113.
