Bernice Kerlick Gotthardt, 93, a resident of Morningside Ministries in Boerne, Texas, and formerly of Pleasanton, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011. She was born on May 25, 1918, in Yorktown to Louis and Leona Kerlick.

Bernice started her career teaching grades 1-5 in a one-room schoolhouse in Karnes County. She retired in 1985 after 38 of years of teaching school in Kenedy, Beeville, and Pleasanton.

The family would like to thank Jerald Winakur, MD, Alyson Guerrero, MA, and caregiver Brandy Benson for all of their dedicated and loving care.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Claude Gotthardt; and her brother, Louis Kerlick of Murray, Ky.

She is survived by her son, Claude Gotthardt Jr. and wife Lynn of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; her daughter, Dianne Bridges and husband Ron of Fair Oaks Ranch; her grandchildren, Lisa Weixelbaum and husband Craig of Hewitt, Mike Bridges and wife Julie of San Antonio, Krista Gotthardt of Brecksville, Ohio, and Scott Stamper of St. Louis, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6-8 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A committal service was held at 3 p.m. in Yorktown.

Mrs. Gotthardt, was my teacher at Pleasanton Jr. High. She was a wonderful lady and I will always remember her. God Bless.
