1930-2011

Philip Pardo Villanueva, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2011. He was born in Hunter, Texas, on Dec. 23, 1930.

Philip proudly served in the U.S. Army as a quartermaster supply specialist. He dedicated his wonderful life to God, family, and teaching. He taught sixth grade at Edgewood Junior High and Alonso Perales Elementary in the Edgewood Independent School District in San Antonio for 30 years.

Philip was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a dedicated supporter and servant of the Cordi-Marian Sisters. He loved to hunt, fish, and barbecue.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Febronio and Sofia Villanueva; his sister, Sofia Villanueva; and his brothers, Febronio Villanueva and Father Robert Villanueva, C.M.F.

Philip is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maria Del Carmen “Mary” Villanueva; his daughter, Teresa V. Garza and husband Ben; his sons, Philip A. Villanueva and wife Carol, Edward V. Villanueva, and Michael P. Villanueva; eight grandchildren, Amber, Benjamin, Andrew, Michael, Alyssa, Bradley and wife Valerie, Emily, and Abby; one great-granddaughter, Skyla; and one great-grandson, David Bradley, who will be born at the end of August.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Ramiro P. Villanueva and Ray Gil Villanueva; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 2-9 p.m. in the Castillo Mission Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Christ the King Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Interment followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
