FLORESVILLE -- Sacred Heart School on Trail Street is excited to announce a new early childhood curriculum for its pre-k and kindergarten students: Frog Street Press.

The Frog Street mission is “Building a Community of Learners” through stories, songs, rhymes, games, and play. The curriculum integrates themes, disciplines, and domains with differing levels to meet the needs of all students from special needs to the advanced.

This child-centered approach provides many good, colorful books and activities that foster a lifelong love of reading, according to Sacred Heart School Principal Patty Barber.

Spanish also is integrated into the program, which is aligned with the Early Childhood Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and standards for Texas. Software for children is included; parents can access the library, songs, and work their child is doing in class.

“One feature that really appeals to me as a longtime teacher of young children is the conscious discipline,” Barber said. “It is integrated into the morning routine and is a proactive way of providing children the tools needed to deal with others in a positive way. It is said to almost eliminate discipline problems in the classroom. That is a real plus for teachers as well as parents.”

The colorful materials include a large Frog puppet.

“We can’t wait to begin using the full curriculum!” Barber said.

Registration is under way at Sacred Heart Catholic School for students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. For more information, call 830-393-2117 or visit www.shsfloresville.org.
