The Sarah Bain Chandler Public Library of Stockdale ended its summer reading program, “Dig Up A Good Book!,” sponsored by the library’s board of directors and volunteers, with an end-of-year party for the summer readers July 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Library Activity Room.

Those being honored were the children reading 20 or more books during the eight-week program and the volunteers assisting with librarian duties and the craft-activities and read-aloud sessions. During this eight-week period, 225 children and teens and 83 adults took advantage of the library activities.

Joining the “Dig Up A Good Book!” reading program and reading 25 books were Marissa Cook, Stephen Heathcoe, Heaven Marquez, Makayla Marquez, Jacqueline Rodriguez, Ashley Scribner, Joshua Scribner, and Luke Scribner.

Top readers during the summer session were Logan Hebert (35 books), Brianna Hebert (33 books), Jazmin Navarro (31 books), and Kaylee Sanchez (31 books).

Top coloring sheets selected in the “Dig Up A Good Book!” coloring contest were Joshua Scribner, Avery Gastelum, Luke Scribner, Ashley Scribner, Logan Hebert, Jazmin Navarro, Toni Arizola, and Melody Whitfield.

Presenting the certificates and awards was Kay Deagen.

Refreshments of cake and ice cream were served to the 38 children and 16 adults in attendance by Patty Marquez, Diana Sanchez, and Sara Peterson.
