SAN ANTONIO -- Recent high school graduates from throughout Bexar County, all members of area 4-H clubs, have received more than $200,000 in scholarships, said the county’s Texas AgriLife Extension Service agent for 4-H and youth development.

This year’s SALE scholarship recipients and their respective 4-H clubs include Jacob Stuart of the St. Hedwig 4-H and Zachary Williams of the East Central 4-H Club. Scholarship recipients were recognized at the annual 4-H Awards Program Aug. 12 in Helotes.

The largest financial contributor to these scholarships was the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Inc. (SALE), which provided funding for 12 four-year scholarships of $16,000 each, said Greg Myles, AgriLife Extension agent in Bexar County working with 4-H programs.

4-H members also received $18,000 in scholarships through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Foundation. Scholarships were awarded to students planning to pursue a degree in agriculture, agribusiness, life sciences, or a related field.
