Ben and Graves Peeler of Floresville competed in the 2011 Texas Cattle Feeders Association Junior Fed Beef Challenge at West Texas A&M University campus July 30.

Graves placed first in the Junior Oral Presentation and was awarded a plaque.

The Texas Cattle Feeders Association Junior Fed Beef Challenge allows 4-H and FFA students to gain industry knowledge and practical experience in commercial cattle feeding. Students feed a pen of three steers and then compete on the carcass merit of the cattle, plus their ability in record keeping, a written test, and a presentation to a panel of judges.

The feeders association represents the cattle-feeding industry in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Known as “Cattle Feeding Country,” this area is the largest cattle-feeding region in America and annually markets about 6.5 million fed cattle, or 30 percent of the nation’s fed cattle production.

For more information about the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, visit www.tcfa.org.
