Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Phyllis Eleanor Gass, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at the age of 74. She was born on Oct. 21, 1936.

Phyllis raised her three daughters and took care of their home while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force, taking them as far away as Japan. Once settled in San Antonio, Texas, she began working full-time in civil service jobs at Lackland and then Kelly Air Force Base in the finance departments. She enjoyed her work and her colleagues.

Upon retiring, she enjoyed the adoration of her grandchildren, but with her energy levels still high she began working for American and Southwest Airlines, which afforded her the ability to travel more frequently with friends, especially to her favorite destination, Las Vegas.

Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and an active participant in the lives of others. She grew strong and loving relationships with her children, grandchildren, and friends, all of whom could count on her to be there whenever they needed her.

Even as her health deteriorated, Phyllis stayed positive and continued to stay active. She felt lucky to have had the loving care of her family and her attendants, Heidi and Toni. She spent her last time on this earth surrounded by family and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Willie R. Gass; and her parents, Edna and Osborn Evans.

She is survived by her three daughters, Debra Shaw and husband Steve, Tamra Dudley and husband Frank, and Pamela Maldonado and husband Rene; her brother, George Evans and wife Judy; her nephew, John; her six grandchildren, Floyd and Lacey Davey, Michelle and Luis Villareyna, Shauna Shaw, Torie Maldonado, Averie Maldonado, and Trey Maldonado; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Odyssey Hospice, 4440 S. Piedras Drive, Suite 125, San Antonio, TX 78228.
