Jamie Marie Koehler and John Van Matre joined hands in holy matrimony Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, in a ceremony in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale, Texas.

Jamie is the daughter of retired Lt. Col. Steven Koehler and Priscilla Koehler of Stockdale. John is the son of Karl Van Matre of Canyon Lake, and the late Deannine Chambless Van Matre.

Dinner and a dance followed in Kosciusko Hall, with the local “RyKo Wilson Band” providing the music.

Since their wedding day, they have had a wonderful, blessed marriage. John is a petty officer in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guam shortly after their wedding, so the couple packed up their few belongings and made their way over to the charming island on the other side of the world.

Since then, they have been experiencing military life to the fullest. John is a nuclear mechanic on the submarines. So far, he has seen Japan, Singapore, and Hawaii. Jamie was able to join him in Hawaii, where they got to see Pearl Harbor and other sites. They’ve also adopted Baron, a “boonie” dog, or stray dog from Guam. Jamie is the chairman of the Sunshine Committee for the USS Buffalo Family Readiness Group; she even got to ride on the tugboat that meets and pulls the sub during John’s last “underway” on July 25 of this year. Jamie has recently accepted a position at the Child Development Center there on the naval base.

Jamie and John look forward to many more happy years and all the adventures to come.
